The Super 11 extends Scania’s most efficient combustion platform to a new displacement, with output options from 350hp to 430hp and a two-million-kilometre engine lifespan.
Scania has launched the Super 11, an 11-litre addition to its Super combustion powertrain platform, six months after introducing the 13-litre variant for people transport. The engine is available with outputs of 350, 390, and 430hp and is positioned for both urban and inter-city bus and coach operations.
The company claims fuel savings of up to 10% compared with predecessor engines. A key contributor is Variable Valve Braking, which combines compression release braking and cam phaser technology to deliver up to 350kW of braking power and, in some configurations, can replace the retarder entirely — saving up to 80kg in weight.
Engine lifespan is rated at up to two million kilometres, a 25% improvement on the previous equivalent. Serviceability has also been revised, with oil and fuel filters repositioned to the cold side of the engine, removing the need to wait for cool-down before filter replacement and reducing workshop downtime.
The Super 11 is compatible with HVO and biodiesel, and the Euro 6 variant features a twin SCR aftertreatment system. New rear axles and auxiliary brakes are also included in the package.
