Toyoda Gosei’s curtain airbag has been adopted by Chinese luxury EV brand IM Motors for its LS9 model
Toyoda Gosei has secured its first airbag contract with a Chinese automaker, with its curtain airbag adopted for the LS9 from luxury battery-electric vehicle brand IM Motors. The Japanese supplier said it is strengthening its development capacity in China to sustain competitiveness in the world’s largest automotive market.
The curtain airbag is 15% more compact than previous models while maintaining protective performance that meets Chinese New Car Assessment Programme criteria. Toyoda Gosei said it used computer-aided engineering technology during product design to meet the faster development timelines required by Chinese automakers.

Curtain airbags reduce head impacts by deploying instantaneously to cover windows during side collisions. The company said it aims to become a supplier of choice in China through products that meet customer needs amid intense competition from the spread of electric vehicles and emergence of new manufacturers.
Toyoda Gosei is a member of the Toyota Group and supplies safety systems, interior and exterior components, and functional parts to automakers globally.
