Renault will relaunch the Duster in India in spring 2026, with the model to be assembled at its Chennai plant
Renault will relaunch the Duster in India in spring 2026, with the compact SUV to be assembled at the automaker’s Chennai plant as part of its Renault International Game Plan 2027 strategy. The original Duster launched in India in 2012, where it pioneered the compact SUV segment, and has sold more than 200,000 units in the country, with nearly two million sold worldwide since the nameplate was introduced in 2010.

The Chennai plant has been wholly owned by Renault Group since July 2025, when it acquired Nissan’s shares in the facility. The site has assembled more than three million vehicles since opening in 2008, including 1.2 million for export to over 100 countries, and has also manufactured 4.6 million engines and gearboxes. The new Duster will later be launched in South Africa and the Gulf States.

Renault said India is now the world’s third-largest automotive market and a strategic pillar for the company. The compact SUV segment in which Duster competes accounted for 14% of passenger car sales in India in 2025.

In a statement, Fabrice Cambolive, Chief Growth Officer of Renault Group and Chief Executive of the Renault brand, said: “As part of the Renault International Game Plan 2027, we are making India a key pillar of our growth outside Europe. The new Duster is the first step in Renault’s renewal in India.”
Stéphane Deblaise, Chief Executive of Renault India, added: “In India, Renault Duster is far more than just a name—it is a true legend.”
