Renault 4 and 5 E-Tech achieve top Green NCAP scores

The Renault 4 E-Tech and Renault 5 E-Tech have achieved maximum five-star Green NCAP ratings, leading a round of tests covering six models

The Renault 4 E-Tech and Renault 5 E-Tech have each achieved a maximum five-star Green NCAP sustainability rating in the latest round of assessments. The Renault 5 scored 9.1/10 for Clean Air and 9.3/10 for Energy Efficiency, while the Renault 4 reached a 9.4/10 Clean Air Index, attributed in part to lower tyre abrasion properties.

Both models achieved maximum scores in the Greenhouse Gas assessment, accounting for production, battery manufacturing, lifetime energy use and end-of-life recycling. Each also features bidirectional charging capability.

The latest round of tests included four further models. The Dacia Bigster, a hybrid SUV, and the fully electric Cadillac Optiq, both large five-seat SUVs, each received three-and-a-half stars, with scores of 63% and 67% respectively. Green NCAP noted the Optiq’s DC fast-charging performance was slower than comparable electric SUVs, requiring up to 40 minutes from 10% to 80% under ideal conditions.

The Citroën C3 110 mild hybrid also achieved three-and-a-half stars with a score of 62%, while the Dacia Sandero scored 59% and fell short of the three-star threshold, limited by moderate fuel consumption of 5.7 l/100 km and weaker cold-start pollutant control.

In a statement, Dr Aleksandar Damyanov, Technical Manager, Green NCAP, said: “Renault should be congratulated for making desirable electric cars that are practical, efficient and affordable.”
