Volvo Trucks has begun US production of its new VNR regional hauler at its New River Valley plant in Virginia
Volvo Trucks North America has begun production of its new VNR regional hauler at the company’s New River Valley plant in Dublin, Virginia. The truck, unveiled in March 2025, is built on a platform that is 90% new compared with the previous model and offers up to 7.5% improved fuel economy.
The VNR is designed for urban and regional delivery operations, featuring a tighter turning radius, sloped hood design, and larger panoramic windshield for improved forward visibility. Volvo said the model includes industry-first integrated side curtain airbags, describing it as the safest regional truck the company has produced in North America.

In a statement, Peter Voorhoeve, President of Volvo Trucks North America, said: “Built on a completely new platform, the Volvo VNR is purpose-built for navigating congested city streets, distribution centres, and urban routes where visibility, precision, and agility are critical. We are excited to begin production and get these trucks into the hands of our customers.”
The first units will be delivered to Clayton, a national single-family homebuilder. Volvo has invested US$400m in upgrades at the Virginia facility, including a new 350,000-square-foot cab welding facility and upgraded paint and material flow systems. The plant has built trucks for North American markets for more than 40 years.
