The new GLB hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a 22 kW electric motor, enabling electric running in urban conditions
Mercedes-Benz has launched the combustion-engine variants of the new GLB in Europe, featuring 48-volt mild hybrid technology across five model grades with prices in Germany starting at €50,396.50. The range pairs a newly developed 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an integrated 22 kW electric motor housed within a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, available in outputs of 100 kW, 120 kW and 140 kW with front-wheel or all-wheel drive options.
The 48-volt lithium-ion battery carries an energy capacity of 1.3 kWh, enabling pure electric running at low urban speeds, electric coasting with a decoupled drivetrain at up to 100 km/h, and energy recuperation across all eight gears at up to 25 kW. Combined fuel consumption across the range spans 5.7 to 6.7 litres per 100 km under WLTP testing.

The GLB is built on Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS software platform and supports over-the-air updates. The new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system integrates artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google. An optional MB.DRIVE ASSIST package adds SAE Level 2 capability through steering assist, distance-keeping and lane-change functionality.
The electric GLB entered the market ahead of the hybrid variants. The new combustion models seat up to seven occupants and offer 540 litres of boot volume. Leasing rates for private customers in Germany start at €360 per month for the GLB 180.
