Polestar has won the AUTOBEST SMARTBEST 2026 award for integrating Google Maps’ live lane guidance into the Polestar 4 driver display
Polestar has received the AUTOBEST “SMARTBEST 2026” award for integrating Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into the driver display of the Polestar 4, with the jury describing the feature as a significant step forward in intelligent onboard navigation and driver assistance technology. The award, presented at a ceremony in Vienna on 19 March, is given by an independent jury of motoring journalists from 32 European countries for smart connected technologies that enhance the driving experience.

Polestar is the first automaker to integrate Google Maps’ live lane guidance, currently available to drivers in the United States and Sweden. The feature provides visual and audio reminders to help drivers change lanes in time on complex highways, displaying all possible lanes for the chosen route alongside the vehicle’s current lane position within the Polestar 4’s driver display.
In a statement, Michael Lohscheller, Chief Executive of Polestar, said: “We are delighted by the AUTOBEST SMARTBEST 2026 award. A well-deserved recognition of the work from our dedicated R&D specialists and a testament to our successful and long-standing partnership with Google. Important factors behind Polestar’s leading edge in-car technology, benefitting all our customers.”

The jury said: “The SMARTBEST 2026 Award goes to Polestar for the integration of Google Maps’ live lane guidance directly into the driver display, debuting on the Polestar 4. The AUTOBEST jury recognised this innovation as a significant step forward in intelligent onboard navigation and driver assistance technology.”
