Mercedes-Benz Trucks tests megawatt charging across five countries

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has completed a 2,400 km MCS test drive across five countries, confirming megawatt charging viability in winter conditions

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has completed a 2,400 km test drive using two Megawatt Charging System (MCS)-capable eActros 600 prototype trucks, gathering real-world data on charging interoperability and winter performance across Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. One vehicle subsequently completed additional winter trials in the Finnish Arctic Circle at temperatures as low as -20°C.

The tests confirmed that megawatt-range charging is achievable in cold conditions provided the battery is at a sufficiently high operating temperature, a condition Mercedes-Benz Trucks says is met in practice when charging takes place during legally mandated driving breaks. Successful charging sessions were completed at multiple public and private MCS sites designed for truck applications, with vehicles tested against infrastructure from various manufacturers.

Further interoperability testing with charging station manufacturers is planned over the coming months. In parallel, Daimler Truck is participating in the HoLa high-performance charging project for long-haul trucking in Germany and will bring the eActros 600 into real-world high-power charging trials during 2026.

Customer trials of MCS-capable eActros 600 trucks are set to begin in the second half of the year as part of the Electrify Inbound Logistics project, which covers inbound transport to Mercedes-Benz Trucks production plants in Germany. An MCS-capable charging station is also planned for installation at the Wörth am Rhein plant from mid-2026.
