The Tourismo has reached 40,000 units across three generations, with the current model featuring Active Brake Assist 6 Plus
Daimler Buses has produced the 40,000th Mercedes-Benz Tourismo high-deck coach, marking a production milestone for what the company describes as Europe’s best-selling touring coach. The vehicle rolled off the line at the start of 2026, spanning three generations of the model since its introduction in 1992.
The current third-generation Tourismo, in production since 2017, is available in two- and three-axle configurations across four lengths from 12 to 14 metres. A major update in 2023, presented as the Tourismo Safety Coach, introduced Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, Sideguard Assist 2 and the new Frontguard Assist system, which together provide collision warnings covering pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles at the front and sides of the vehicle. Attention Assist uses a driver-facing camera to detect fatigue or distraction, issuing warnings on long trips.

Efficiency features include a drag coefficient of 0.33, Predictive Powertrain Control and automatic body-lowering at 79 km/h. Optional MirrorCam replaces conventional exterior mirrors with camera feeds to interior 15-inch monitors, reducing frontal area and improving night visibility.
“Across all three generations, Daimler Buses has consistently further developed and refined the Mercedes-Benz Tourismo concept,” said Mirko Sgodda, Head of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services at Daimler Buses. “This is the only way the Tourismo could become Europe’s best-selling touring coach.”
