MAN Truck & Bus has launched a 250-tonne heavy-duty tractor unit built as a complete factory solution across its Munich and Wittlich sites
MAN Truck & Bus has launched the TGX 41.640 8×4/4, a 250-tonne gross vehicle weight heavy-duty tractor unit built as a complete factory solution at its Munich and Wittlich production sites. The four-axle vehicle is powered by the MAN D3876 six-cylinder engine producing 640hp and 3,000Nm of torque, designed for applications including the transport of wind turbine components, high-voltage transformers and submarines.
The vehicle is produced at MAN’s Munich plant and transferred to the MAN Truck Modification Center in Wittlich, where it receives heavy-duty couplings, reinforced cooling and expanded diesel and hydraulic tanks. A heavy-duty tower behind the cab houses four pressure tanks providing 160 litres of additional air supply, a 960-litre diesel tank and a 290-litre tank for two-stage hydraulics delivering up to 300 bar. An integrated torque converter clutch within the automated TipMatic 12.30 OD gearbox enables low-wear starting with up to 1.59 times additional torque.

The launch extends MAN’s series vehicle portfolio from 3.5 to 250 tonnes across the TGE, TGL, TGM, TGS and TGX model lines, with fully electric options available from 12 to 42 tonnes. The first customer vehicle has been delivered to German rental specialist BFS.
In a statement, Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales and Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, said: “With our new 250-ton tractor unit, we are returning to the supreme discipline of heavy-duty transport.”
