Kia has detailed the EV2’s NVH development, using dyno-based testing and acoustic glazing to reduce noise in the compact electric SUV
Kia has detailed the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) development of its EV2 compact electric SUV, designed and engineered at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC) to address the heightened acoustic sensitivity of electric drivetrains. The model is designed, produced and sold in Europe, with NVH targets tailored to regional driving conditions.

Unlike combustion-engined vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs) lack engine noise to mask road, wind and high-frequency component sounds, making acoustic development more critical to perceived quality. HMETC used advanced numerical simulation from early development stages, combined with dyno-based testing to isolate specific frequencies and validate countermeasures in a controlled environment independent of external variables such as weather or road surface variation.
The EV2 is equipped with acoustic tyres, acoustic laminated door glass and an acoustic windscreen to reduce road and wind noise at motorway speeds, supported by specially developed carpets and wheelhouse absorbers. High-frequency sounds from EV-specific components including the inverter and DC/DC converter are addressed through a dash inner insulation concept, a frunk absorber and an optimised underbody cover.

In a statement, Oliver Jung, Lead Engineer at HMETC, said: “Acoustic tyres, acoustic glazing, and an optimised sound package work together to keep the cabin calm and quiet, even on motorways.”
The EV2 is offered with 42.2kW/h and 61.0kW/h batteries, with estimated WLTP ranges of up to 317km and 453km respectively. DC fast charging, 11kW and 22kW AC options, and bidirectional charging are supported.
