Leapmotor picks QNX for D19 premium electric SUV

Leapmotor has selected QNX software to underpin its forthcoming D19 premium electric SUV, which enters mass production this month

QNX, the BlackBerry-owned operating system business, has been selected by Chinese EV maker Leapmotor as the software foundation for its forthcoming D19 premium electric SUV. The vehicle enters mass production this month and is the first globally to launch with a centralised high-performance controller built on QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 and QNX Hypervisor for Safety 8.0.

The D19 controller consolidates digital cockpit, ADAS and connectivity domains onto a single safety-certified system. The architecture supports up to eight 3K and 4K displays, 24-channel audio, and a sensor stack that ingests up to 13 camera feeds alongside lidar, radar and ultrasonic inputs.

QNX said the platform allows safety-critical control software to run alongside Linux or Android-based applications under spatial and temporal isolation, with deterministic scheduling. Leapmotor’s broader software stack also supports over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics and a service-oriented architecture covering more than 500 modular capabilities.

The D19 deepens a partnership that began in 2021 when Leapmotor selected QNX for its C11 crossover, with the operating system also running on the Chinese OEM’s B-series models launched last year. “With QNX at the core of the D19’s central controller, we can offer customers a premium experience that combines advanced safety, immersive infotainment, and continuous innovation,” Hongtao Zhou, Senior Vice President at Leapmotor, said.
