AJAC has named the Kia EV9 its 2026 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year at the Toronto auto show
The Kia EV9 has been named 2026 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), with the award announced at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. The three-row electric SUV has now received nearly 50 accolades worldwide since its launch in 2023.
The EV9 was selected by a panel of 50 AJAC jurors from more than 600 completed ballots. Kia also received the Canadian Black Book award for Best Residual Values Overall Brand for Electric Vehicles at the ceremony.

Evan Williams, AJAC President, said: “The EV9 had been oh so close to winning this award the last two years, but this year one quality crucial to Canadian car shoppers has pushed it over the top. The EV9’s starting price has remained unchanged for the last three years, and what was an exceptional family EV now delivers an even more exceptional value.”
Elias El-Achhab, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Kia Canada, added: “We are honoured to have the EV9 recognised by the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada. Furthermore, the recognition from Canadian Black Book solidifies our efforts and commitment to providing high-quality EVs that Canadians can truly count on.”
Since 2005, Kia has won 14 AJAC category awards and one overall Car of the Year title.
