Large SUVs and pick-ups encapsulate the difference between the US and European markets. Ian Henry explores recent developments concerning these models
As the electric vehicle (EV) incentives from the Biden era have finished and the Trump Administration has eased fuel emissions rules, US consumers have returned to large SUVs and pick-ups, with production correspondingly increasing and investment in their manufacturing in the US rising. By contrast, although the numbers involved are modest, the EU is now considering revising the rules and processes that have allowed large US-made pick-ups to be imported without full homologation, only requiring compliance with the EU’s Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA).
