The Spartanburg plant exported nearly 200,000 BMW X models worth US$9bn to approximately 120 markets last year
BMW Group remained the largest automotive exporter by value in the United States in 2025, according to data from the US Department of Commerce. The company’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina exported nearly 200,000 BMW X models with a total export value of US$9bn last year.
Since 2014, BMW Group has exported nearly three million vehicles from the US with a total export value of US$113bn. The vehicles were primarily shipped through the Port of Charleston, with more than 14,000 units also exported via rail to approximately 120 global markets.

“Free trade and open markets enable growth and prosperity. Our plants—and, above all, the strong supplier networks in each region—benefit from this,” Milan Nedeljković, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, said.
Plant Spartanburg produced 412,799 BMW X models in 2025, the third-highest volume in the facility’s 32-year history. The plant is the largest in BMW Group’s global network, assembling more than 1,500 vehicles daily and employing more than 11,000 people. Approximately 50% of its output is exported.
BMW Group has invested nearly US$16bn in its South Carolina operations since 1992. The automaker has held the title of largest US automotive exporter by value for more than a decade.
