Octopus Energy’s Electroverse is launching its Plunge Pricing scheme in France, offering up to 50% off public charging

Octopus Energy’s Electroverse charging network is launching its Plunge Pricing scheme in France, offering EV drivers discounts of up to 50% at public chargers when renewable energy generation is high and wholesale electricity prices are low. The scheme is available at 7,000 Powerdot ultra-rapid chargers across the country.

France is the first market outside the UK to receive the variable pricing model, which Octopus says has saved British drivers nearly £100,000 collectively since launching in 2024. The company estimates French drivers will save approximately €5 per Plunge Pricing session.

“So far in the UK we’ve already helped customers save almost £100,000 with our Plunge Pricing, so we’re buzzing to expand it across the channel into Europe for the first time,” Matt Davies, Founder and Director of Octopus Electroverse, said.

Electroverse is connected to 97% of France’s 172,000 public chargers and plans to expand Plunge Pricing to additional charging networks. Octopus Energy’s French retail arm has also agreed to supply Powerdot’s network with renewable energy.

Afonso Ramos, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Powerdot, said the scheme aligns EV charging with periods of excess renewable energy “to unlock lower costs for drivers across the country.”

Octopus Electroverse connects more than one million drivers to over 1.3 million chargers across 50 countries.
