WeRide launches Genesis simulation platform

WeRide has unveiled Genesis, a simulation system designed to accelerate autonomous vehicle development through virtual testing

WeRide has launched Genesis, a simulation platform that uses generative AI to create virtual urban environments for training and validating autonomous vehicles at scale. The system can generate simulated cities within minutes, replicating road infrastructure, weather conditions, and traffic behaviours, including rare and high-risk scenarios that are difficult to capture through real-world testing.

Genesis integrates four AI modules covering scenario generation, behaviour modelling for road users, performance metrics, and diagnostic analysis. WeRide said the platform can accommodate vehicles ranging from level 2++ driver assistance systems to level 4 robotaxis, allowing its autonomous systems across different markets to be trained on a single platform.

The company said the platform draws on billions of kilometres of real-world driving data and over eight years of edge cases from its public road operations. WeRide currently holds autonomous driving permits in eight countries and operates in more than 40 cities across 11 countries.

In a statement, Dr Yan Li, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at WeRide, said: “WeRide Genesis builds us a digital universe that can be generated, scaled, and evolved on demand. With it, our AI drivers can familiarise themselves with the driving environment of any city worldwide within minutes.”
