Uber to offer Joby eVTOL taxi bookings through its app

Uber and Joby Aviation have launched Uber Air powered by Joby, enabling riders to book Joby’s electric air taxi directly through the Uber app. Joby expects to carry its first passengers in Dubai later this year.

Joby’s aircraft seats up to four passengers, uses six tilting propellers for vertical take-off before transitioning to forward flight, and is capable of speeds up to 200 mph with a range of up to 100 miles per charge. Qualifying trips will surface the Uber Air option within the standard booking flow, with Uber Black ground transfers included at each end.

Joby has completed more than 50,000 miles of flight testing and is in the final stage of FAA certification for US commercial operations. Planned markets beyond Dubai include New York, Los Angeles, the UK, and Japan.

Uber and Joby have been partners since 2019. Joby acquired Uber’s Elevate division in 2021 and, more recently, Blade’s passenger business, with Blade’s commercial helicopter service also set to appear in the Uber app this year.
