Uber targets AV commercialisation gap with new solutions arm

Uber has launched Uber Autonomous Solutions, a suite of services to help AV developers commercialise and scale autonomous mobility and delivery.

Uber has launched Uber Autonomous Solutions, a suite of services giving autonomous vehicle developers access to its demand marketplace, data infrastructure, and fleet operations tools. The offering is organised across three areas: infrastructure, user experience, and fleet operations.

On the infrastructure side, Uber is offering AV training data gathered by a fleet of sensor-equipped vehicles across the US and Europe, dynamic mapping data informed by tens of billions of trips, and regulatory and financing support. Fleet operations capabilities include a real-time vehicle management system, remote assistance, field support teams, and a bespoke AV insurance policy covering vehicles across on-trip, off-trip, and charging states.

An in-car software interface developed by Uber will debut later this year in the Nuro-Lucid-Uber robotaxi, integrating Nuro’s real-time driving visualisation. Uber also says it is developing shared AV products, with a Volkswagen collaboration set to launch in Los Angeles this year.

Current partners using elements of the platform include Avride, Wayve, WeRide, and Nuro. WeRide’s deployments supported by Uber include robotaxi services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh.

“Innovation in autonomy is moving quickly, but meaningful commercialisation will take much longer,” said CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “With Uber Autonomous Solutions, we’re externalising these hard-won competencies for our partners.”
