TomTom launches unified speed data service for ADAS

TomTom has launched Unified Speed Restrictions, a service fusing static and live speed data to support ISA compliance and advanced driver assistance

TomTom has launched Unified Speed Restrictions, a speed data service that consolidates static and live sources into a single continuously refreshed output for use in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving applications. The service is designed to support compliance with Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) regulations while delivering accuracy beyond the minimum requirements needed for driver trust.

The service fuses unsigned speed limits, roadside sign recognition, probe data and real-time variable speed limits into one output, ensuring vehicle systems have access to current speed information at all times. TomTom said higher data accuracy supports better predictions, smoother manoeuvres and more consistent automated driving performance across a range of conditions.

Unified Speed Restrictions is available both as an application programming interface (API) and pre-integrated within the TomTom ADAS SDK, which is compatible with a range of software stacks and designed to avoid vendor lock-in. The company said the pre-integrated option reduces development complexity and accelerates time to market for automakers and tier-one suppliers.

In a statement, Manuela Locarno Ajayi, Senior Vice President of Product Engineering, TomTom, said: “With Unified Speed Restrictions, we are equipping automakers with a globally consistent, future-ready foundation that reduces complexity, enabling higher levels of automation.”
