Turkish trailer manufacturer Tırsan has signed up for ZF’s SUMS Service Suite to meet the UNECE R156 software update regulation
Turkish trailer manufacturer Tırsan has signed up for ZF’s Software Update Management System (SUMS) Service Suite to meet UNECE R156, the incoming software update regulation. The deal deepens a 30-year relationship with ZF and will see Tırsan deploy the Scalar software manager across its trailer range.
UNECE R156 takes effect on 7 July 2026 and shifts accountability for software updates from suppliers to trailer manufacturers, requiring OEMs to approve, document and evidence every update across a vehicle’s lifecycle. ZF said its ISO 24089 and ISO 21434 certifications and a track record of certified customers were factors in Tırsan’s choice.

Under the deal, ZF’s Scalar software manager will hold software update records for all Tırsan trailers fitted with a ZF electronic or braking system for 10 years, with data handling aligned to the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Tırsan’s full range, spanning general cargo, cold-chain, tank silo, intermodal and lowbed trailers, will be built to the new rules.
Tırsan ships to customers in more than 70 countries outside Turkey. In a statement, Çetin Nuhoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Tırsan, said: “Our trusted partnership of over 30 years with ZF evolves to cover latest compliance mandates.”
Christian Hainzl, Head of Sales Trailer EMEA at ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions, added: “We are thrilled to support Tırsan to fulfill the requirements of UNECE R156.”
