Tata Motors has launched a new version of its Punch SUV in India with turbo petrol and twin-cylinder CNG powertrain options
Tata Motors has launched an updated version of its Punch subcompact SUV in India, featuring a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and what the automaker describes as the world’s first twin-cylinder compressed natural gas (CNG) system paired with an automated manual transmission (AMT). Prices start at ₹559,000 (approximately US$6,600) and the vehicle carries a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.

The Punch, which created the subcompact SUV segment when it launched in October 2021, has sold nearly 700,000 units in India. Tata said the turbocharged iTurbo Revotron engine offers the best power-to-weight ratio in its segment, while the iCNG twin-cylinder system preserves boot space while enabling automatic transmission operation.
Standard safety features include six airbags, electronic stability programme, hill hold and hill descent control, and tyre pressure monitoring. The interior features a 26.03 cm infotainment display, 360-degree surround view camera and 65-watt USB-C charging.
In a statement, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said: “With the new Punch, we’ve redefined what an SUV in this segment can be—shaped by customer insights and engineered with new age technology at its core. It’s faster, smarter, and safer, complemented by a bold, muscular stance. This evolution reflects our passion for continuous innovation towards enhancing customer delight.”
