Synopsys unveils digital twin platform for SDV software development

Synopsys has launched an electronics digital twin platform enabling OEMs to complete up to 90% of software validation before physical hardware is available

Synopsys has launched the Electronics Digital Twin (eDT) Platform, a cloud-based environment for creating, deploying and managing electronics digital twins for software-defined vehicle development. The firm says the platform enables OEMs to complete up to 90% of software validation before physical hardware is available, reducing development costs and compressing time-to-market.

The platform provides pre-integrated cloud environments, referred to as eDT Labs, combining Synopsys virtualisation tools, open-source system composition via the SIL Kit developed with Vector, and a broad ecosystem of partner technologies including silicon models, simulation tools and software IP. Deployment options include software-as-a-service or customer-supplied cloud infrastructure, with support for AWS Graviton4 processors.

Volvo Cars is among the early adopters. “With virtualised ECUs, our teams can shift left test and validation before hardware exists, enabling us to reduce development cost, increase software quality, and accelerate innovation throughout the lifecycle of our vehicles,” Johannes Foufas, Technical Manager, Software Factory, Volvo Cars, said.

“Automotive engineering teams are at their breaking point with more than 600 million lines of software, hundreds of software suppliers, rapidly shrinking development cycles, and mounting cost pressures,” Ravi Subramanian, Chief Product Management Officer at Synopsys, said. “With the new eDT Platform, Synopsys is transforming engineering with an end-to-end digital twin foundation.”

The platform is available now, with customers able to engage Synopsys directly on deployment.
