Marelli has launched a new PFI ECU range for gasoline, flex fuel and CNG applications, with regionalised variants for Brazil, India and EMEA markets
Marelli has launched a new generation of port fuel injection (PFI) engine control units (ECUs) for gasoline, flex fuel and compressed natural gas (CNG) applications, targeting the Brazilian, Indian and EMEA markets. Each of the three regional variants is designed, validated and produced locally, with the supplier saying the approach is intended to optimise cost and implementation timelines for local automakers.
The ECUs support gasoline, flex fuel blends including ethanol, methanol and synthetic fuels, and CNG, with hardware and software configured to manage all engine control requirements across those fuel types. The units incorporate Infineon’s Aurix TC3x automotive microcontroller and comply with ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety standards at the system level, reaching ASIL B/C at the application level. Firmware over-the-air (FOTA) update capability and an open architecture for third-party application integration are also included.
Each unit supports up to eight gasoline injector drivers and four CNG injector drivers, alongside wide-range universal exhaust gas oxygen sensors, OBDII diagnostics and integrated combustion and emission control algorithms.
“In markets where internal combustion engines remain relevant, our new engine control units enable greater efficiency, emissions reduction, and versatility,” Giovanni Mastrangelo, Head of Research and Development for Marelli’s Propulsion business, said.
