Aito, Seres’ premium brand, will join BMW and Mercedes-Benz in Ionchi’s premium high-power charging network for China

Seres is to become an equal shareholder in Ionchi, the Chinese high-power charging joint venture previously held 50:50 by BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Each of the three partners will hold a 33.3% stake, with Seres’ premium brand Aito joining as the third shareholder, subject to regulatory approval.

Ionchi, set up in 2024, operates a public high-power charging network in China, targeting urban prime locations. Its stated offer combines station operation and maintenance with 100% renewable energy supply. The network is open to all eligible electric vehicles.

Customers of BMW, Aito and Mercedes-Benz gain exclusive access to services including online reservations and priority power allocation on top of Ionchi’s standard offer. The three partners said the expanded joint venture will support geographic expansion, higher network density and new service features.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz said they welcome Aito’s participation and will work with Seres on further development of premium charging infrastructure in China. The three shareholders also reiterated a long-term commitment to supporting the development of sustainable mobility in the country.

Ionchi did not disclose investment figures, station rollout targets or a timeline for Aito-branded charging access to launch. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
