New Jersey Transit has ordered 375 Xcelsior clean-diesel buses from New Flyer, completing a 550-unit base order
New Jersey Transit has ordered an additional 375 Xcelsior 40-foot clean-diesel transit buses from New Flyer of America, completing the 550-unit base order under a contract awarded in the first quarter of 2024 and leaving options for a further 750 vehicles available for future procurement. The order forms part of a multi-phase fleet replacement programme, with NJ Transit targeting a fully modernised bus fleet by 2031.
NJ Transit is the largest statewide public transit system in the United States, operating bus, rail and light rail services across New Jersey.
In a statement, Chris Stoddart, President of North American Bus and Coach at NFI, said: “The Xcelsior buses included in this contract deliver dependable, cost-effective performance while improving safety and accessibility for passengers. Built for durability and long service life, these new buses will help NJ Transit continue providing the reliable, essential transportation services that keep communities and economies moving every day.”
Kris Kolluri, President and Chief Executive of NJ Transit, added: “Modernising our bus fleet is a critical investment in our riders, our employees, and the communities we serve. These new buses move us closer to our goal of a fully modernised bus fleet by 2031—improving reliability, accessibility, and comfort.”
