Nissan sets long-term vision on AI and electrification

Nissan has unveiled its long-term vision centred on AI-defined vehicles, with plans to cut its global lineup from 56 to 45 models

Nissan has outlined a long-term vision under the banner “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” anchoring its future strategy on AI-defined vehicles, a pared-back model portfolio and three lead markets. The plan targets Nissan AI Drive technology adoption in 90% of its lineup while cutting global models from 56 to 45.

The vision combines Nissan AI Drive, focused on advancing autonomous driving capability, with Nissan AI Partner for in-vehicle integration into everyday routines. Electrification will expand through e-POWER series hybrid technology and, via partnerships, plug-in hybrid and range-extender solutions, while a new hybrid electric vehicle system will serve future frame-based vehicles.

Nissan’s lineup will be restructured into four model categories: Heartbeat, Core, Growth and Partner. Three product families will account for more than 80% of global volume and raise output per model by more than 30%. Infiniti remains central to the strategy, with revitalisation beginning with the all-new 2027 QX65.

Sales targets have been set across all three lead markets: Japan at 550,000 annual units by fiscal 2030; the US aiming to return to one million sales on the back of new body-on-frame vehicles and the Rogue Hybrid e-POWER; and China targeting one million units with N7 exports to LATAM and ASEAN.

In a statement, Ivan Espinosa, President and Chief Executive, said: “As we continue on our path to recovery, it is essential that Nissan demonstrates our relentless focus on serving the customer, seizing the opportunities provided by AI technologies, expanding electrification and driving innovation into our vehicles to deliver sustainable market growth.”
