Motional to launch driverless robotaxi in Las Vegas

Motional plans to launch a fully driverless Level 4 robotaxi service in Las Vegas by the end of 2026 using the Ioniq 5

Motional, Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous driving joint venture, plans to commercialise a fully driverless Level 4 robotaxi service in Las Vegas by the end of 2026, following supervised pilot operations using the Ioniq 5 robotaxi platform earlier in the year. The company is transitioning towards end-to-end AI motion planning, which integrates perception, decision-making and control into a single learned process rather than separate modules, with the goal of enabling more adaptable driving behaviour.

The Ioniq 5 robotaxis are produced at Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore and developed to comply with US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, with independent assessments from TÜV SÜD. Motional said its phased validation programme includes large-scale simulation, closed-environment testing and measured expansion on public roads.

Hyundai Motor Group is expanding collaboration between its Advanced Vehicle Platform Division, Motional and 42dot, integrating Motional’s Level 4 operational experience with 42dot’s software-defined vehicle roadmap. A partnership with a global ride-hailing platform will support the commercial launch, integrating the robotaxi service into existing mobility ecosystems.
