Kia has started EV2 production at its Žilina plant, adding a second fully electric model to its European manufacturing output
Kia has begun production of the EV2 at its Žilina plant in Slovakia, marking the second fully electric model to be assembled in Europe after the EV4. The B-segment SUV follows a €200m (US$216m) modernisation programme completed in 2025, which included next-generation robotics and production line upgrades across the facility.
The EV2 is offered with two battery options: a 42.2 kW/h standard-range version and a 61.0 kW/h long-range variant, with anticipated ranges of up to 317 and 453 kilometres respectively, pending final homologation under the worldwide harmonised light vehicles test procedure (WLTP). Charging options include 400V DC fast charging, 11 kW and 22 kW AC charging, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and bidirectional charging support.

In a statement, Soohang Chang, President and Chief Executive Officer at Kia Europe, said: “The start of production for the EV2 continues to verify our technical capabilities and flexibility in Europe. When the EV4 went into production last August, we demonstrated our ability to produce fully electric models and cars with hybrid and internal combustion powertrains side by side. Now adding the EV2, the output of our Slovakian factory will better support Kia’s electrification strategy in Europe.”
The Žilina plant employs around 3,700 people and operates more than 600 robots across five production areas. It produced approximately 300,000 vehicles in 2025, representing 9.3 per cent of Kia’s global vehicle output. The 61.0 kW/h long-range variant and EV2 GT-line are scheduled to enter production in June 2026.
