Hyundai Motor Group plans to begin mass production of Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot for deployment from 2028
Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its artificial intelligence robotics strategy at CES 2026, announcing plans to begin mass production of Boston Dynamics’ Atlas humanoid robot with phased deployment across the group’s global manufacturing plants starting in 2028. The South Korean automaker’s MobED mobile robot platform won the CES 2026 Best of Innovation Award in Robotics, with mass production of both MobED Pro and MobED Basic models set to begin in the first quarter of 2026.

Atlas received CNET Group’s Best of CES 2026 recognition, with initial deployment planned for sequencing tasks at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia. The group is establishing a Robot Metaplant Application Center to serve as its AI robotics training and validation hub.
The strategy is built on three pillars: deploying robots to assist workers with high-risk and repetitive tasks in manufacturing; combining Boston Dynamics’ expertise with the group’s global scale; and partnering with AI leaders including semiconductor specialist Deepx to develop ultra-low-power on-device AI chips.
The group also announced a Robotics-as-a-Service model, shifting from one-time sales to subscription-based solutions. The CES showcase included demonstrations of Spot performing industrial site management tasks and the Ioniq 5 Robotaxi with automated charging and parking capabilities.
