Honda earns EPA ENERGY STAR at seven US plants in 2025

Seven Honda manufacturing plants in the United States have received the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR certification for outstanding energy efficiency in 2025, with the Marysville and East Liberty auto plants in Ohio earning the distinction for the 20th consecutive year. Honda’s plants in Canada also received the certification, with Honda of Canada Mfg. earning its seventh award across its auto and engine plants.

The certified US facilities include the Indiana Auto Plant, recognised for the 14th consecutive year; the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, earning its eighth award; the Alabama Auto Plant engine facility, receiving its seventh; and both the Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio and the Honda Transmission Plant in Georgia, each earning their sixth certification.

Honda’s Green Factory initiative, launched in 2021, underpins many of the efficiency gains. Recent measures include replacing gas heat sources with electric heat pumps, recovering waste heat to reduce natural gas consumption, installing an electric arc furnace and electric boilers, and covering more than 80% of North American manufacturing electricity through long-term virtual power purchase agreements for renewable wind and solar energy.

ENERGY STAR certification is awarded to plants in the top 25th percentile nationally for energy performance, measured by energy consumed per unit produced.

In a statement, Jeff Waid, Environmental Department Manager at Honda, said: “In addition to energy efficiency, we are very proud of our commitment to minimise waste and water use as part of our comprehensive approach toward reducing environmental impact.”
