Green NCAP is set to reference the CharIN Label in its EV Driving Experience assessments following a new MoU on charging interoperability testing
Green NCAP and the Charging Interface Initiative (CharIN) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to integrate CharIN’s conformance testing programmes into Green NCAP’s electric vehicle assessment framework, with the aim of improving transparency around EV charging compatibility. The agreement would see Green NCAP reference the CharIN Label within its Driving Experience assessment for electric vehicles, where relevant.
Conformance testing verifies that EVs and charging equipment comply with established technical standards, ensuring that vehicles and chargers perform as specified across different brands, networks and countries. EV interoperability — the ability of different vehicles and charging stations to work together without compatibility issues — is increasingly relevant as public charging infrastructure expands across markets.
Testing under the partnership may be conducted in accordance with CharIN’s established processes or through recognised CharIN partners, ensuring consistency with international standards. The collaboration is intended to give consumers, fleet operators and policymakers clearer, independent information on charging performance.
Dr Aleksandar Damyanov, Technical Manager at Green NCAP, said: “By working with CharIN and recognising its conformance testing programmes, we are strengthening the information available to consumers about charging compatibility and performance.”
Michael Keller, Chief Technology Officer at CharIN, added: “By integrating CharIN’s conformance testing programs into independent assessments, we can help ensure that vehicles and charging infrastructure work seamlessly together and support the continued growth of e-mobility.”
