As Chinese OEMs build appreciation in the premium segment, Germany’s brands are losing the prestige it took them decades to build. By Will Girling

As German automakers struggle to regain equilibrium in China, the market’s domestic players are planning to throw down a gauntlet at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, which runs from 24 April to 3 May. Brands like Nio, Geely and BYD will reportedly display models loaded with high-spec technical features and targeted at the premium segment—considered by some as the final refuge of heritage European OEMs.
