Blue Bird to buy out Girardin’s stake in Micro Bird

Blue Bird Corporation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Girardin Group’s 50% stake in the Micro Bird joint venture for approximately US$200m, taking full ownership of the enterprise. The transaction comprises 30% cash and 70% Blue Bird common stock, with completion expected in the first half of 2026 pending regulatory approvals.

Micro Bird specialises in Type A school and commercial shuttle buses with capacities ranging from nine to 36 passengers, offering gasoline, propane, and electric powertrains. The company employs approximately 960 people at facilities in Drummondville, Quebec, and Plattsburgh, New York. Blue Bird and Girardin Group established the joint venture in 2009.

In a statement, John Wyskiel, President and Chief Executive of Blue Bird Corporation, said: “We are delighted to purchase Girardin’s stake in Micro Bird and to take full control of the joint venture. The acquisition strengthens our strategic position and supports Blue Bird’s long-term vision for innovation, operational performance, and sustained profitable growth.”

Blue Bird said the acquisition will give it the broadest product portfolio in North America, spanning Type A, C, and D school, multi-purpose, and commercial buses. The company added that the deal significantly increases its total addressable market for Buy America Act-compliant shuttle buses. Steve Girardin is expected to join Blue Bird’s board following completion.
