The relative positions of Honda and Nissan have changed since 2024, and the first one then is now becoming the last in a race for survival. By Ian Henry
Not long ago Nissan was a takeover target for Honda, although the latter tried to dress this up as a merger. Ultimately, the minority stake which Nissan shareholders would have had to accept in this arrangement led the company’s incumbent management to reject the deal in February 2025.
