ThunderX has adopted SAFERTOS from WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems across its AIBOX domain controller platforms for SDV applications
ThunderX, a developer of intelligent driving domain controller platforms, has adopted SAFERTOS, a pre-certified real-time operating system from WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems (WHIS), across its next-generation domain controller platforms built on Qualcomm SA8775P and SA8650P system-on-chips (SoCs). The integration is aimed at reinforcing functional safety and real-time performance in AI-driven software-defined vehicle (SDV) architectures.
SAFERTOS is applied to safety-critical subsystems within ThunderX’s AIBOX central compute platform, which supports cockpit and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) fusion, AI perception, and cross-domain orchestration. The operating system is pre-certified to ISO 26262 and provides deterministic task execution across ThunderX’s two main domain controller products: RazorDCX Tarkine, powered by the SA8775P and described as the first single-SoC cockpit-driver fusion domain controller, and RazorDCX Pantanal, built on the SA8650P for entry-level through flagship vehicle applications.
ThunderX said applying a consistent functional safety software foundation across both product lines allows OEMs to maintain a unified development approach while adapting performance and cost structures for different markets.
In a statement, Dongchao Xu, Chief Executive Officer of ThunderX, said: “Through SAFERTOS, we are strengthening the deterministic real-time and functional safety foundation for safety-critical components within our platform architecture, enabling OEMs to scale AI-driven cockpit-ADAS fusion with reduced integration complexity and accelerated time to production.”
Andrew Longhurst, Managing Director at WITTENSTEIN high integrity systems, added: “It delivers safety and predictability where milliseconds make the difference, empowering OEMs to meet the most demanding automotive standards.”
