Continental counts BYD, Volkswagen, BMW, Nio and Hyundai among 17 of the 20 highest-volume EV manufacturers it supplies worldwide
Continental Tires supplied original equipment tyres to all 10 of the highest-volume electric vehicle manufacturers in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in 2025, as global EV sales volumes continued to grow. Worldwide, the Hanover-based company counts 17 of the 20 highest-volume EV manufacturers among its original equipment customers, including BYD, Volkswagen, Stellantis, BMW, Nio, Hyundai and Renault.
In the Americas, Continental supplies eight of the 10 leading EV manufacturers by volume; in Asia Pacific (APAC), it supplies seven of the top 10. The company notes particular volatility in the Chinese market, where new high-volume manufacturers have entered the rankings within a single year.

Continental attributes its position in the EV segment to early investment in low rolling resistance, low noise and high load capacity — characteristics that are especially relevant to battery electric vehicles, which are heavier than equivalent combustion-engine models due to battery weight and subject tyres to greater torque loads on acceleration.
The company’s EcoContact tyre line, first introduced in 1993, is now in its seventh generation. The EcoContact 7 features an aerodimple sidewall structure adapted from golf ball aerodynamics, which the company says reduces air turbulence around the tyre and lowers the energy required to maintain rolling speed.
In a statement, Dennis Bellmund, Head of Global Original Equipment Business at Continental Tires, said: “We began designing our passenger tires for low rolling resistance, quiet rolling noise and high load capacity very early on. These properties are especially important for electric vehicles.”
