Allison and DTNA expand partnership for M2 106 Plus truck

Allison Transmission is adding two automatic gearbox options to the Freightliner M2 106 Plus, entering production in 2026 and 2027

Allison Transmission and Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) have expanded their partnership to offer two automatic transmission options for the Freightliner M2 106 Plus medium-duty truck. The Allison 3414 Regional Haul Series (RHS) transmission paired with the Cummins X10 diesel engine will enter production in January 2027, while the Allison 9-Speed transmission paired with the Cummins B6.7 Octane engine is scheduled for production from July 2026.

The 3414 RHS is designed for medium-duty tractor applications and offers 25% faster acceleration compared with competing automated manual transmissions (AMTs), according to Allison. Its torque capacity and gear ratio optimisation are intended to suit demanding duty cycles across a range of operating conditions.

The 9-Speed paired with the Cummins Octane gasoline engine is aimed at fleets seeking a balance between torque delivery and fuel efficiency. Both transmissions are fully automatic.

In a statement, Aaron Scates, Vice President, Vocational and Medium Duty Market Development at Daimler Truck North America, said: “The Allison 9-Speed, paired with the Cummins B6.7 Octane, offers smooth, predictable shifting for customers choosing a gasoline configuration. Together, these transmissions broaden the range of powertrain options available to customers as they tailor the M2 106 Plus to their needs.”

Rohan Barua, Vice President, North America Sales, Global Channel and Aftermarket at Allison Transmission, added: “By integrating our 3414 RHS and 9-speed transmissions into the Freightliner M2 106 Plus platform, we are providing purpose-built technology designed to enhance productivity, efficiency and long-term value.”
