Nio’s manufacturing facilities have been named National Green Factories by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology
Nio’s manufacturing facilities have been named National Green Factories by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as part of the country’s 2025 list. The automaker says the recognition follows evaluation across five dimensions: land intensification, harmless raw materials, clean production, waste resource utilisation and low energy carbonisation.
The National Green Factories selection is a core initiative in China’s dual-carbon strategy and the development of a green manufacturing system. Nio says the recognition marks the transformation of its factories from energy consumers into contributors to environmental sustainability.

The automaker says its factories have implemented a comprehensive energy-and-carbon management system that enables real-time monitoring and intelligent optimisation of energy use, reducing per-vehicle energy consumption and carbon intensity. The facilities have also established water recycling and industrial solid waste reuse systems based on circular economy principles.
In core vehicle manufacturing stages such as painting and welding, Nio says its factories employ environmentally friendly processes that have reduced emissions of volatile organic compounds. The company says being named National Green Factories marks a key milestone in its environmental, social and governance strategy.
Nio retains an AA rating from MSCI and remains in the top tier of Chinese automakers in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Corporate Knights has listed Nio in its Global 100 for four consecutive years.
