Toyoda Gosei completes Ashimori Industry buyout

Toyoda Gosei has acquired all shares of Ashimori Industry, effective 1 March 2026, completing the subsidiary process

Toyoda Gosei has acquired all shares of Ashimori Industry, effective 1 March 2026, completing the process of making the seatbelt and airbag manufacturer a wholly-owned subsidiary. The supplier says the acquisition aims to maximise synergies in safety systems by combining airbags and seatbelts.

Toyoda Gosei formed a capital and business alliance with Ashimori Industry in May 2021, and in November 2023 made the company an equity-method affiliate to enhance synergies in product development, design, sales, procurement and production. The full acquisition is intended to expedite decision-making and optimise management resources in the safety systems business.

The supplier says it aims to become a comprehensive supplier of safety systems and contribute to a reduction in traffic fatalities through optimum vehicle occupant protection that combines airbags and seatbelts. Toyoda Gosei says there is increasing demand for safety systems that achieve optimal control through the combination of the two technologies.

Ashimori Industry, headquartered in Osaka, manufactures automotive seatbelts and airbags as well as functional products including synthetic rope and pipe rehabilitation systems. The company recorded sales of JP¥72.6bn and employed 2,358 people as of March 2025.

Toyoda Gosei says efforts will also be made to grow Ashimori Industry’s pipe rehabilitation business, which addresses aging pipeline infrastructure and has seen rapidly rising demand for rehabilitation work.
