Volkswagen has been trying to survive through a seemingly endless process of cost-cutting, but there are few signs this is working. By Ian Henry

In late 2024, Volkswagen reached an agreement with its unions to cut 35,000 jobs in Germany without closing any plants, although small factories in Dresden and Osnabrück are being repurposed and will no longer make cars. Within a year of this jobs cull, reports have emerged that the company still needs further cost-cutting to survive in the long term.
