TDK expands thermistor range for high-temp automotive use

TDK has launched NTC thermistors rated for operation at up to 175°C, targeting automotive power module applications

TDK expands thermistor range for high-temp automotive use插图TDK Corporation has expanded its NTCSP series of negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors to include components rated for operation at up to 175°C, an increase from the previous 150°C maximum. Mass production began in February 2026.

The thermistors are designed for automotive applications including anti-lock braking systems, transmissions, and engines, where power semiconductors are generating higher temperatures. The components are AEC-Q200 compliant and offer an operating temperature range of -55°C to 175°C. TDK said the use of silver-palladium terminals compatible with conductive glue mounting enables operation at 175°C, which was difficult to achieve with conventional solder mounting.

The supplier said demand for higher-temperature components is being driven by the shift to more powerful and heat-resistant power semiconductors in automotive applications. As semiconductor performance increases, electronic components mounted in power modules must also withstand higher temperatures.

The NTCSP series is available in 10 kΩ and 100 kΩ variants in a 1.6 x 0.8 mm package. TDK said it will continue to develop NTC thermistors with expanded chip sizes, thermistor characteristics, and operating temperature ranges.
