ZF has secured a multi-year order for several thousand AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axles from an Indian bus manufacturer
ZF has secured a multi-year order from an Indian OEM for several thousand units of its AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle, with first deliveries scheduled for 2026. The axles will be used in battery electric city buses for the Indian domestic market and global exports.
The AxTrax 2 LF, which debuted at Busworld 2023, delivers up to 20% energy savings compared to its predecessor. The fully integrated low-floor axle combines propulsion, braking and suspension systems in a compact architecture designed to optimise space for batteries and passengers.

The axle features dual permanent magnet synchronous hairpin motors, an 800V silicon carbide inverter and advanced oil cooling. It delivers up to 360kW continuous power and peak torque of 36,800Nm, providing 25% climbing ability for a 30-tonne articulated bus with a single driven axle.
Andreas Moser, Head of the Commercial Vehicle Solutions division at ZF, said: “This order highlights ZF’s strength as a trusted partner in advancing zero-emission mobility and reflects the continuing strong global demand for products across all key commercial vehicle domains. The AxTrax 2 LF shows how ZF innovation supports the transition to zero emissions public mobility through the combination of high performance and modular flexibility with cutting-edge efficiency.”
