The software-defined vehicle (SDV) promises to reshape the ownership experience by enabling over-the-air (OTA) updates that can fix problems, introduce new features, or adjust functionality. As a result, a five-year-old vehicle could feel like a new model right off the production line. But what about a ten- or 15-year-old vehicle? While OTA updates will undoubtedly allow vehicles to feel fresh for longer, at some point the hardware will not be able to keep up.
