Volvo Trucks has unveiled the FH Aero Electric with a 700km range, alongside next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric models offering up to 470km
Volvo Trucks has unveiled two new electric heavy-duty truck lines, including the FH Aero Electric with extended range capable of 700km on a single charge, alongside next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric models offering up to 470km. Both lines will begin rolling out to markets from 2026.
The FH Aero Electric uses a new e-axle that integrates dual motors and a six-speed gearbox into the rear axle, freeing chassis space for additional battery capacity. It supports megawatt charging system (MCS) charging at 700kW, reaching 20–80% in approximately 50 minutes, within the EU’s mandatory driver rest period. Gross combination weight reaches 48 tonnes with payload up to 28 tonnes.

The next-generation FH, FM and FMX Electric feature a new dual-motor drivetrain with an eight-speed purpose-built gearbox delivering up to 540kW. An integrated gearbox power take-off allows the truck to drive and power auxiliary equipment such as concrete mixers, hook lifts or refuse units simultaneously. GCW reaches 65 tonnes. Both lines benefit from new powershift gearboxes designed to reduce noise and vibration.
Roger Alm, President, Volvo Trucks, said: “We are broadening our offering and making electric solutions possible for an even wider range of transport assignments, and also adding a cutting-edge electric truck with a range of up to 700km. It has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones.”
Progress with patents
Volvo filed more than 500 patents in 2025, around 80% of which were related to carbon-neutral drivetrain and propulsion technologies. Suann Vahlenbreder Hecht, Head of Legal & Volvo Group IP, informed Automotive World that she has observed “very good development in the fields of electromobility, both battery powered and hydrogen fuel cell powered, and in internal combustion engines with carbon neutral fuels.” Over the last five years, the truckmaker has scored high citation rates in electric propulsion in particular.
