Toyota is launching the RAV4 PHEV in Japan on 9 March 2026, offering a 150km electric range and emergency power supply capability
Toyota Motor Corporation is set to launch the new RAV4 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Japan on 9 March 2026, expanding the sixth-generation RAV4 lineup that began with a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) model in December 2025. The PHEV will be offered in two grades—the Z at JPY6,000,000 and the GR SPORT at JPY6,300,000—with Toyota targeting sales of 700 units per month.
The RAV4 (PHEV) features a new-generation plug-in hybrid system producing a maximum output of 242kW, with a larger-capacity battery and silicon carbide semiconductors in the power control unit reducing energy loss. The BEV-mode driving range has increased from approximately 95km to approximately 150km on a full charge.

The system also functions as a power supply, delivering up to 1,500W through a 100V outlet for outdoor or household appliance use. In emergencies such as power outages, the vehicle can supply electricity for approximately 6.5 days at a 400W load from a full battery and tank, or up to seven days in Power Supply Time Priority Mode.
The GR SPORT grade adds sport-oriented engineering, including GR Performance Dampers—a registered trademark of Yamaha Motor—GR Braces for improved body rigidity, specially tuned suspension and electric power steering, and aerodynamic bodywork developed through computational fluid dynamics analysis and wind tunnel testing.
Both variants are produced at Toyota’s Takaoka Plant and Toyota Industries Corporation’s Nagakusa Plant.
