TomTom’s Area Analytics enables cities and organisations to analyse traffic data across custom-defined areas and timeframes
TomTom has launched Area Analytics, a traffic analysis tool that allows cities, governments and organisations to define custom geographic areas and analyse traffic patterns across specific timeframes with hourly aggregations. The platform covers 77 countries and offers historical data dating back to 2018, with the ability to analyse areas ranging from individual city blocks to entire countries.

The tool is designed for public authorities, city planners, traffic engineers, analysts and private enterprises. Users can compare congestion trends across different timeframes or locations, assess the impact of roadworks or policy measures, and evaluate progress toward mobility goals.
In a statement, Ralf-Peter Schäfer, Vice President for Traffic and Travel Information at TomTom, said: “Cities and organizations today need precise, on-demand insights to respond to change in real time. With Area Analytics, we’re giving them the ability to define exactly where and when they want to analyze movement, empowering faster, more informed decisions at a fraction of the traditional cost.”
Area Analytics is available through TomTom’s Move portal and presents data through visualisations including colour-coded maps and heat maps. Data can be downloaded in multiple formats for integration with external systems.
