Tesla’s vehicle sales and revenue fell in 2025, but that means little for the company as it goes full speed towards AI and robotics. By Will Girling

Between criticism of its aging product portfolio and the growing unpopularity of its CEO, Elon Musk, 2025 wasn’t great for Tesla. The automaker delivered 418,227 vehicles in Q4 2025, bringing its total for the year to 1.63 million, down 8.6% year-on-year.

Tesla has fallen from the stratospheric highs of 2022, when the company was unequivocal leader of the global electric vehicle (EV) segment with a 16.8% operating margin, to simply one of many brands with a much more ordinary 4.6% margin. Clearly, the fundamentals of the business have changed, and Musk would likely agree with this assessment.
