Renault updates Austral, Espace, Rafale for 2026

Renault has announced technology upgrades for its Austral, Espace, and Rafale models, including a new Qi2 wireless phone charger, enhanced connectivity, and an advanced driver monitoring system. The automaker says the updates, available to order in France, are designed to enhance in-car comfort and connectivity across its upper-range vehicles.

Renault says it is one of the first automakers to offer a Qi2-standard wireless charger, which uses a magnetic ring to deliver faster charging without overheating. From 2026, the models will also gain a connectivity package from Airnity, providing integrated internet access for the infotainment system with 2GB of data per month for three years.

The automaker says Google’s Gemini AI assistant will replace Google Assistant via an over-the-air update. A new driver attention monitoring system uses an A-pillar camera to detect signs of fatigue or discomfort, gradually bringing the vehicle to a stop with hazard lights if a problem is detected. A new “Smart” driving mode automatically switches between Eco, Comfort, and Sport settings based on driving style.

Renault says top-specification versions account for the majority of sales across the range, with Esprit Alpine and Atelier Alpine finishes representing 85% of Rafale sales. The automaker adds that over half of Rafale customers are new to the brand, with nearly 50% of those previously owning premium vehicles.

All three models are available with Renault’s full hybrid E-Tech 200hp powertrain.
