Louis Schweitzer led Renault from 1992 to 2005, overseeing the Nissan Alliance, the Dacia acquisition and the launch of key models
Renault Group has renamed its Le Mans manufacturing facility the “Manufacture Louis Schweitzer – Le Mans” in tribute to its former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, who died on 6 November 2025 aged 83. The announcement was made during a visit to the site by current Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard and Chief Executive François Provost, in the presence of local elected officials.
Schweitzer joined Renault in 1986 and served as Chairman and Chief Executive from 1992 to 2005. During his tenure, the group launched the Twingo, Scénic and Kangoo models, acquired Dacia, established the Alliance with Nissan, and created Auto Chassis International (ACI) in 1999, which forms the foundation of the Le Mans chassis operation.

The Le Mans site, the oldest in the Renault Group, has more than 100 years of industrial history and employs 1,719 people. It supplies chassis components and architectures for electrified vehicles across the group’s range, including the Renault 5 and Master E-Tech, and houses a chassis technical centre with 300 engineers.
In a statement, Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard said: “We decided with François Provost that it was important for a large site of the group to bear the name of Louis Schweitzer. He reshaped the company by anchoring economic performance in the group’s long-standing social values. That is why we decided to give his name to the Le Mans site in France. It is a strong symbol and a way of recognising that a great leader can mark the life of a huge company.”
